"The sun scratches outside ..." Reading by Dimitris Lyacos "Nyctivoe" and paintings by Sylvie Proidl The German translation of the book "Nyctivoe" by the Greek poet Dimitris Lyacos was presented in the framework of the 53rd Frankfurt Book Fair's focus on Greece in 2001. This is the poet's first book to be published in German (ctl-Presse, Hamburg). Dimitris Lyacos currently resides in London. Lyacos tells the story of Nyctivoe in the form of a dramatic poem that is reminiscent of Rilke and Celan, yet joins ranks with the great Greek lyricists of the 20th century. It recalls certain myths from antiquity but never loses touch with today's world. The interdisciplinary nature of this event was underscored by the artist Sylvie Proidl, who visually translated the book's subject matter into delicate calligraphic art dealing with transitoriness. Dimitris Lyacos introduced his book and read - in both Greek and German along with the translator Dr. Nina-Maria Jaklitsch - selected excerpts from his work. A discussion with the guests and Greek refreshments rounded off the evening. www.lyacos.net Photos: www.rudolfschwarz.at |
